Collection: Jefferson Nickels

The Jefferson Nickel is a five-cent coin that was first minted in 1938.  It features a portrait of Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States, on the Obverse Side.  The Reverse Side of the coin has undergone several design changes over the years.

The initial design of the Jefferson Nickel, known as the "Monticello" design, features a depiction of Jefferson's home, Monticello, on the Reverse Side.  This design was used from 1938 to 2003, making it one of the longest-running coin designs in U.S. history.

In 2004, the Reverse Design of the Jefferson Nickel was changed to feature a depiction of the American Bison.  This new design, known as the "Westward Journey" series, was introduced to commemorate the bicentennial of the Lewis and Clarke Expedition.

Since then, the Reverse Design of the Jefferson Nickel has undergone several changes.  Different designs have been featured, including images of the Keelboat, the Peace Medal, and the Ocean in View.  These designs were part of the ongoing "Westward Journey" series.  The Jefferson Nickel has remained in circulation and is a popular coin among collectors.  Its historical significance, as well as its unique designs, make it a fascinating piece of American numismatic history.
